The Retelling of the Resurrection: Through a Child’s Eyes

The death and resurrection of Jesus ultimately means that those who put their faith in Him will be in right relationship with God and that we now have the power to live in a way that honors Him here on this earth. Yet, God is so big, this story can mean different things to different people at different times.  God’s truth speaks to children, teens, adults, male and female, and every ethnicity and nationality. This month, we will hear from Josiah Melson (9 years old). He will retell the story of Jesus’s death and resurrection in His own words. Be blessed!

Retelling of Jesus’s death

The Easter story is that Jesus got crucified. They offered him wine mixed with spices, but he refused it. People who were walking by were teasing him, so the people said, “Come down from the cross, if you are God’s child”. And the priest said this too. And the people who were crucified with him was also teasing him.  So, Jesus was getting crucified and it was like three something and until something.  It was all darkness. And he said, “Oh, God, God why have you forsaken me?” And the person gave him a sponge with wine and vinegar to drink and people said, “Leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes and takes him off the cross”. And with a loud cry, he died. The curtains top to bottom got torn. And that’s it.

The women who followed Jesus all around taking care of his needs watched from the distance and watched as he died.  And then Joseph, I think, came and asked for the body of Jesus and Pilate was shocked that Jesus had died already so he asked his commander had Jesus died already?  And he said yes, so he gave Joseph the body.  Then he wrapped it in linen cloth and he hid it in a tomb area and then the same women who followed him around saw where he was buried.

Retelling of the Resurrection

The same women, after the disciples had come to Jesus’ tomb, they had spices for the body. And they were like which one would push the rock away?  But the rock was already open then.  And then, there was this white person or boy there and they were shocked and scared.  He said, “Do not fear, Jesus is not here.”  And he said tell the disciples and Joseph. And they did not tell anybody because they were scared.  Some other people saw God and they told the eleven disciples but they did not believe them. Then, Jesus appeared to them and he was very firm and mad with them because they had no faith.  He told them, “You will be able to do things like I have done to preach the good word about me”. And then he ascended up to heaven and sat at the right hand of God.

Why is Easter important to you?

It reminds me, “You should always have faith about Jesus and never forsake him”.
