Wrap Me in Your Arms (Merry Christmas)

Scripture:

4: He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

Psalm 91 (NKJV)

10: See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and He rules with a mighty arm. See, His reward is with Him, and His recompense accompanies Him.

11: He tends His flock like a shepherd:  He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.

Isaiah 40 (NIV)

1: Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

II Corinthians 7 (NIV)

What is it about music that so powerfully “takes us there”? A song has the ability to evoke deep emotional responses, triggering memories or even creating new ones. Music is a fundamental part of the human experience, something people have made and listened to for centuries. Different rhythms and tones provoke varied responses in different individuals. While one person may feel nostalgia when hearing a particular song, another may experience happiness, sadness, or even anger. Music is a potent stimulant, capable of stirring emotions in both humans and animals.

Interestingly, all music seems to elicit some emotional reaction, whether positive or negative. For instance, someone recently shared on Facebook how they broke into a total praise shout while shopping, all because they were listening to a song. Have you ever listened to William McDowell’s "Wrap Me In Your Arms"? It has the power to provoke a deeply emotional response. The song makes one simultaneously smile and almost cry, as it stirs thoughts of how much they love the Lord. Even more profoundly, it reminds them of His boundless love and protection. The imagery of His loving arms surrounding them transports them to a place of peace and joy, where they feel happy, safe, grateful, and blessed—almost overwhelmed by His presence.

“Into your arms, I’m drawing near again. To dwell with You, it’s my only heart’s desire. All I can do is fall on my knees and cry. Cleanse me with fire, purify my heart, draw me close, closer than before. Wrap me in Your arms” This should be the deepest desire of every Christian’s heart: the longing to bask in His presence and find comfort in the safety of His loving arms. In His arms, there is protection. In His arms, there is redemption. Everyone who enters His embrace will know they are loved. There is nothing greater than being wrapped in His arms.

David Jeremiah once said, “All the Christmas presents in the world are worth nothing without the presence of Christ.” Yet, there is one exception, for it is precisely this rule that confirms the truth. It was God’s greatest gift to us, given one Christmas morning so long ago, that made Christmas a reality for the Christian. How blessed we are to know that all who accept His gift are assured of being wrapped in His arms for all eternity. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the safety, comfort, and love found in Your arms. Thank You for loving us despite our faults and shortcomings. We acknowledge that we fall short, and when we do, we ask that You cleanse and purify us, so we can stand before Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:

“The loving arms of God continue to hold us, even when we turn away. Be thankful for His forgiveness.”
