Waiting in the Anointing
Scripture:
4: But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
5: to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Galatians 4 (NKJV)
9: And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
10: Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6 (NKJV)
God’s people are pregnant with purpose! That’s why they are here. God has a purpose and a plan for each of their lives. Yet, many of them spend their entire lives searching for it, praying about it, worrying over it, and never fully realizing what it is. Not because God is not speaking to them about it, but because they are distracted by life and not recognizing His voice when He speaks.
Quite often, God will anoint people for a calling long before He appoints them to that position. Why do you think that is? Sometimes, God is preparing the position for them. There is a need, and He has uniquely prepared someone to fulfill that need. Think about Moses. Joseph. Gideon. Esther. Mary. Jesus. And sometimes, God is preparing them for the position. Think about Moses. Joseph. Gideon. Esther. Mary. Jesus.
Because God knows the end of the thing from the beginning, He knows who is the right fit for the work He needs done. But His knowing is not the same as their knowing. They sometimes need to experience life to prepare them to do that one thing that only they can do. They may have opportunity to hang out in the king’s house or mind sheep in the desert. Maybe they have to spend time in prison (literally or figuratively) to show them their own characters. They may have to hear others speak about what they think they are capable of before they believe that they can do it.
Whatever the situation may be, don’t be discouraged when the appointment does not immediately follow the anointing. Wait on God’s timing but keep doing the prep work in preparation for leveling up. King David is a great example to emulate. He was anointed as king of Israel at the approximate age of 13. But it was 17 years later before he was appointed to the position and crowned king. During those long years of waiting, he kept minding the sheep and serving the then-king Saul. He was faithful in all his roles until God called him from serving the king to being the king.
If someone is not walking in his or her purpose, don’t give up. Keep following God and faithfully working in His Kingdom. When the time is right, they will be appointed to the thing for which they have been anointed. His promises are sure.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the calling You have placed on our lives. We hear You, but we don’t always understand. Please help us to be faithful over the things You have given us to do in the now, even we prepare to walk into our not yet. Your election and calling are sure, and we trust that You will use us to do the work that You have prepared us to do. Let it bring glory and honor to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection:
“We are anointed for our assignment on earth because the anointed King lives in us – He is fulfilling His will through us.”
